What are the trolls trying to accomplish?

As can be expected with the election the blogsphere has been humming.  More people have been posting their ideas in their blogs and more people have been commenting on them.

One thing I have noticed with these comments is the number of Conservative trolls who have invaded Liblogs.  Sometimes their comments make sense and are even insightful but most of the time it is just drivel I can only conclude is designed to agitate and often their comments are out and out lies.

What are these people trying to accomplish?  Do they believe that their comments will be seen by anybody else besides partisans from other political parties?  Do they seriously believe that they can sway those partisans to change their support for their parties?

I visit the blogs of supporters from other parties to see what they are saying but I rarely feel the need to comment on them because I know that none of my comments will sway that person's opinion.  I really do have better things to do with my time.

So why do Conservative supporters insist on commenting on Liberal blogs?  Are you really getting paid for it?  If so, what a colossal waste of money that is.  Do you really have that much time on your hands?  If so, get a job, unless commenting on Liberal blogs is your job, in which case carry on I guess.

But if you are not getting paid to do it might I suggest that you could be something much more useful with your time.

They are the "usual suspects", and have been trolling for years (mostly). They are party hacks - many paid. They really ramped up when the new multi-million dollar Harper WAR room opened. Let them use their resources this way. I prefer that to having them knocking doors and pulling votes.

Okay, this idea that therea are "many paid" to comment on blogs is just patently absurd. Where is your proof?

No proof necessary, gasbag. Just call it intuition.

So "gasbag", no proof to back up these assertions of paid Conservative commenters then, other than your magical "intuition".

LOL Yeah, what a shock. :D

And, Omar, while you mull over your magical Liberal intuition, ponder this, as people laugh uproariously -

Michael, you are a wonderful example of the topic of this post.

Ok Michael, you claim that these Conservative trolls are not paid and I am willing to accept that because as you say there really is no proof.

However, that still does not answer my question.

Why do Conservative trolls spend so much time on forums where they are extremely unlikely to convince anyone of their point of view?

Why do they spend so much time on activities that will not win them a single additional vote?

I always find it informative to reverse lefty comments because they often give a glimpse into their thoughts.
While the left and the right have a direction and purpose, the Liberals hover in the perpetual limbo in between.
They have no principles or direction because that would fix them to a position that may be unpopular. They must adopt whatever they believe the public believes.
People can believe in a direction so Conservatives and NDP have a direction or cause. Supporters of the Conservatives and NDP have purpose and a path they believe and can work towards. Liberals have no direction or goal, other than to secure power. Their path is dependant on others so they can never lead, only react and always, to late.
They believe that all their opponents must be paid because they must pay theirs.
